Fashion with a Purpose: Inspiring Women Leading the Sustainable Fashion Movement

International Women’s Day may have passed, but we are here to spotlight inspiring women leading the Sustainable Movement in our little Island, Singapore. It is with no doubt that women are strong, resilient, and unstoppable and they continue to break barriers and shape a better future.

There are notable women in Singapore that we believe are Earth’s unsung heroes:

Samantha Thian, Founder of Seastainable Co. is widely recognised for her contributions through giving back to marine conservation. She frequently engages with international groups to spread the word about marine conservation in Singapore. Her platform is a space where she educates and spreads awareness of how everyone can do their part to protect our beautiful planet!

The lady bosses of The Green Collective, Danielle Champagne, and Agatha Lee 'Agy’ are known for their work in preaching a sustainable lifestyle. Alongside their other co-founder, Mayur Singh, they devised a solution to provide a platform for local eco-friendly brands to showcase their products and services. The Green Collective stands to be Singapore’s only collective of eco-friendly products and the largest curator of sustainable brands under the same umbrella.

Nasyitah Tan, Founder and Creative Director of LOOMS

LOOMS by Nasyitah Tan is a creative studio that thrives on textile waste. LOOMS specialises in upcycling plastic waste into stylish accessories and bags. Her team is also largely made up of homemakers who are benefitting from income that they never had the opportunity to earn. She aims to create an inclusive company that resembles a “shared economy”. Her refashioned pieces are also posted on her own Instagram where she incorporated bag straps into her existing sandals. On top of that, she practices reworking her old and current pieces, in hopes of not “buying anything new”.

These amazing women are leading the way in Singapore's sustainable fashion movement, demonstrating that sustainability and elegance can coexist. Through their creative projects, they are strengthening communities, promoting a culture of mindful consumption, and reducing their negative effects on the environment. Their commitment inspires all of us to support companies that put people and the environment first and make more sustainable decisions. Let's continue to support these trailblazers and strive together for a more sustainable and greener future as we commemorate International Women's Day 💜
